The currency in The Netherlands is the Euro. This Euro currency used in almost every country which is a European Union member. The rates are at the moment as folowing:

Bank accounts

It might be useful to open a Dutch bank account. The major Dutch banks are the Postbank, the ING bank, the ABN Amro, the Rabobank and the Fortis bank.

Once you have opened an account the bank will provide you with a bankcard with you can withdraw money at cash dispensers. In general banks are open on weekdays between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm.

Changing money

You can get euro's using your credit card, travellers cheques or by changing your own currency at exchange offices banks or post offices anywhere in The Netherlands. There usually is an exchange office in or near major railway stations. The GWK (Grenswisselkantoren) at Amsterdam Central Station, the official exchange is open 24 hours a day. There are several smaller exchange offices in the city centre as well, but because these are not allied to any of the major Dutch banks they usually charge more commission.
If you use American Express Travellers Cheques you can also go to their offices.
